Traditional Saunas: Stove, Stone and Wood
A traditional sauna is a heater, a bed of stones and a ladle of water. Water on hot stones makes löyly, the burst of steam that an infrared cabin cannot produce.
The two-person AV2 Hybrid, which pairs far-infrared with a traditional high-heat mode, is listed with the infrared saunas. This range covers outdoor cabins built for year-round use and indoor cabins for a basement, a converted bedroom or a wellness room. For more barrel and cabin shapes, see the barrel and cabin ranges.

How to choose
Indoor or outdoor
The AVC, the Auris cabins and the CT Luna are outdoor saunas. The three Element cabins are indoor only and arrive as ready-to-assemble panels.
Electric or wood
The Auris 1 and Auris 2 accept electric or wood-burning heat. The AVC, CT Luna and Element cabins are electric. Wood needs a chimney, clearances and a check of local rules; electric can be preheated from a phone on WiFi-enabled heaters.
Every electric sauna here needs an electrician
Each electric configuration needs a dedicated 240V circuit, hardwired by a licensed electrician. Running a line to the far end of a garden is often the largest variable cost of the project, so get the quote before you order.
Ceiling height for the indoor cabins
The Element cabins stand just over 88 inches. The Studio is also ten inches deeper than the Nook and Loft, so it will not fit the same wall bay.

Common questions
- What is löyly?
- Löyly is the steam produced when water is poured on the heated stones of a traditional sauna. It is the defining feature of Finnish sauna practice, and infrared cabins cannot produce it.
- Do traditional saunas need a 240V circuit?
- Every electric configuration in this range does, hardwired by a licensed electrician. Wood-burning configurations need no supply circuit for heat but require a chimney and appropriate clearances.
- Which traditional saunas can be wood-fired?
- The Auris 1 and Auris 2 accept electric or wood-burning heaters. The AVC, CT Luna and Element cabins are electric only.
- Can a traditional sauna go indoors?
- Yes. The CT Element Nook, Loft and Studio are built for indoor installation. They are electric only and arrive as panels that assemble in place.
- What warranty do these saunas carry?
- The Auris cabins carry a five-year manufacturer warranty, the Canadian Timber cabins a five-year residential limited warranty, and the AVC a 12-month manufacturer warranty on parts. See the Warranty Policy for full terms.
