Barrel Saunas: Outdoor Cedar, Compared
The barrel form is practical as well as handsome. A round cabin holds less air than a square one with the same seating, so there is less to heat.
The range runs from the panoramic Auris cabins, with full-height glass fronts, to the Canadian Timber barrels in Eastern White Cedar, which seat up to six and accept electric or wood-burning heat.

How to choose
Seating
The Auris 1 seats one or two and the Auris 2 three or four. The Harmony and Elation seat four, the Serenity five and the Tranquility six.
Glass or timber
The Auris cabins have a full-height tempered glass front, so they are usually sited facing a view. The Canadian Timber barrels have bronze tempered glass in the door, and the Serenity and Tranquility can be ordered with half-moon windows.
Electric or wood
Every barrel here accepts electric or wood-burning heat. With the recommended electric heater the Canadian Timber barrels need a 240V / 40A circuit; half-moon window models of the Serenity and Tranquility call for a larger heater and a 240V / 50A circuit.
Delivery path and base
The Canadian Timber barrels ship flat in a crate and are assembled on site, so the crate, not the finished barrel, has to clear your gates and turns. The Tranquility's crate is ten feet long. Every barrel needs a level base sloped slightly to the back: crushed stone, pavers, a concrete pad or a wood deck.

- Why choose a barrel sauna over a square cabin?
- A round cabin encloses less air than a square one with the same seating, so there is less volume to heat.
- Can barrel saunas be wood-fired?
- Yes. Every barrel in this range accepts electric or wood-burning heat. Wood needs a chimney kit and appropriate clearances; check local rules with your fire marshal before ordering.
- What base does a barrel sauna need?
- A level base with a slight slope to the back for drainage: crushed stone, paver blocks, a concrete pad or a wood deck.
- Is it normal for cedar to turn grey?
- Yes. Untreated cedar weathers to silver-grey in sun and rain. It does not harm the wood. An exterior oil holds the original colour if you prefer it.
- What warranty do barrel saunas carry?
- The Auris cabins carry a five-year manufacturer warranty and the Canadian Timber barrels a five-year residential limited warranty. See the Warranty Policy for full terms.
